Day #18

I’m in Berea, Kentucky. I got here last night and ran into a bunch of activists holding a “stop offshore drilling” vigil in recognition of it being the 50th day the oil has been leaking into the Gulf of Mexico. I was already wearing my Power Shift shirt, and when they started singing John Lennon, . . . → Read More: Day #18

I had a user request a video. Here’s one I took at an overlook in Breaks Interstate Park in Virginia right before I crossed into Kentucky.

Day #14

I’m typing this from the Haysi, VA public library. I ended up spending 2 nights at a hostel in Damascus, VA. It was an awesome experience; I met dozens of hikers traveling north coming from Georgia on their way up to Maine; I got several tips on the camping aspect of my trip. Day #11

I’m in Demascus, VA–which is right off the AT, and intersects the Trans-America Trail! Hopefully things will get easier from here on out as I head west to Cali.

Yesterday I passed through Boone, NC–home of Application State University. The youthful college population mixed with hiking/cycling friendly atmosphere made me feel right at home. I . . . → Read More: Day #11

Day #9

It’s day 9, and I’m at the northern tip of North Carolina.

While we were in SC, we met a ex-marine preacher traveling from Daytona, FL to somewhere in TN. He was traveling 60-100 miles/day on a Walmart-special Mongoose with a milk crate zip-tied behind the seat, a single bottle of water, and no helmet. . . . → Read More: Day #9

Day #6

Thanks to Cindy, we finally got a ride out to Savannah, GA and departed on Sunday May 23 in the afternoon.

Things were slow to start, but our miles/day are gradually increasing as our bodies build endurance, and we are slowly getting faster at setting up camp for the night as it becomes more routine.

Fully Loaded Raleigh Sojourn

Michael here. Sorry for the lack of update. It can be a bit tough trying to schedule a trip immediately following finals week. I know Quinn and I have both been extremely busy with school work, but summer is finally here!

I’m back in Georgia for the summer, and Quinn & I are just tying . . . → Read More: Fully Loaded Raleigh Sojourn

Gear Update!

Well after my last paycheck I decided it was time to bite the bullet and start buying some gear. I needed racks, panniers, clothes, and camping equipment. For the racks I settled on Jandd for both front an rear. For panniers I decided to go with cheap ones from Nashbar that I will probably replace . . . → Read More: Gear Update!
